Four Season Centre for the Performing Arts, the city’s
new home for the Canadian Opera Company and the National Ballet
of Canada. The 2000 seat opera house opened in June 2006.
After New York City, Toronto is the world’s second largest
destination for live theater. Designed by Toronto architect
Jack Diamond and located at 145 Queen St. W., the Four Seasons
Centre integrates the best features of the grand European opera
houses with innovative technology in acoustics and sightlines.
The City Room, the glass-enclosed main lobby, was designed with
specially manufactured low-iron glass walls that allows for daylight
or evening glow to add to the mood of the room. The Glass Staircase
provides easy access to the upper levels of the Centre and
allows patrons to enjoy a panoramic view of the City Room. Another
architectural feature is the suspended bridges that overlook the
Amphitheatre and the City Room.
